Cowboy Envy at The Kennedy CenterFrenchy, Too Short, Buffalo K and Ropin' Rodger took on The Kennedy Center on Jan.13. After an early morning flight, they rented a van at Dulles Airport and rode around for awhile. Too Short drove, Buffalo K navigated and Frenchy sat in the back saying "I told you so." Frenchy had gotten lost coming out of Dulles many times before and was of little help. She did try to take their minds off their troubles by making distracting conversation. They finally made it to their top of the line Days Inn (it had received four sunbursts). You should have seen Ropin' as we checked in, sitting on his accordion in its heavy blue case, dressed in all his cowboy finery. Time was of the essence so the gals and guy ate pizza and practiced at the same time. There could be just a touch of tomato sauce on Frenchy's hat. It wasn't authentic cowboy fare, but the coffee tasted like it had been out on the trail awhile.

Too Short's big brother, Bobby, flew up to D.C. to see his favorite band and to do some top secret work, we think. Frenchy's mom and brother and brother's wife and brother's wife's mother and Frenchy's nephew, Matthew, flew up from Spartanburg. Also, Frenchy's sister, Phaye, and brother-in-law and her other nephews, young Elliot and Matthew, drove over as did Lesley from Spartan High days and her boyfriend, and Maria, Petey, young Lucy and Paulina and Mom's first cousin, whom Frenchy had never met.

Our photographer, Garland, made sure he got some great shots. Candids were taken of everyone, except for Frenchy who can sense a camera from behind. There were about 600 people at the show and half of them seemed to be Frenchy's family.

Frenchy stole the show (but not the guest towels). She acted much nicer than your other big stars. (Can you guess who wrote this travelogue?)

The fearless foursome drove to New York early the next morning, with no time to bask in their glory. They got to play at the Performer's Showcase, where folks such as Janis Ian and Phoebe Snow also showcased. Times must be hard. Got some neat gigs out of the event.

Frenchy stayed on a little longer in New York than the others. You know how New Yorkers like to act nonchalant? Well, people acted as if they'd never heard of her and let her have her space. They're so used to seeing big stars all the time, like Regis and that new woman who looks like Kathy Lee, so they didn't fawn. Stay tuned for more fabulous adventure stories.
